Wilde Child – Viridian Disguisement, Toffee Apple Porter (5.2% ABV)

Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

A Toffee Apple Porter? well this one is certainly going to be a little different! Join us as John takes a look at this Toffee Apple Porter from Wilde Child.

  1. Name : Viridian Disguisement
  2. Brewery: Wilde Child
  3. Hops : N/A
  4. Grain : N/A
  5. Aroma: Strong hit of Apple from the moment I opened the can with a slight undertone of sweet cinder toffeee
  6. Appearance : Very dark in colour with a delightful thin brown head when poured.
  7. Body : Medium bodied, very low carbonation quite smooth in the mouth but poor head retention.
  8. Taste : A faint malt with a toffee accompaniement to start, with a green apple tang to finish. Pretty sweet and it gives you a warm glow, no dark toffee or tar in sight with this one.

This was certainly an interesting experience, as Apple beer is certainly something of a rarity, especially in a porter rather than a modern sour.

Its certainly not a traditional porter, and it had no burn. However, Its 6 layered Malts and lactose helped keep it smooth, and helped elevate the apple and toffee notes throughout.

Not sure it would excite a traditionalist, but it was certainly worth a punt for the experience.

John’s overall rating: 3.4/ 5.0
