Freedom Brewery – Sesh (3.4% ABV)

Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

It would be fair to say that beer lovers enjoy a good sesh every now and again but the question here is whether this session pilsner from Freedom Brewery is indeed a good Sesh. Coming in at just 3.4% abv with a description on the can saying that this is the perfect crisp, refreshing pilsner for any session, let’s see if it lives up to it’s promise from a brewery describing itself as the original craft lager brewer, since 1995.

1. Name : Sesh

2. Brewery: Freedom Brewery (Staffordshire, England)

3. Hops :  Challenger & Kazbeck

4. Grain :  Barley & Oats

5. Aroma : Aroma is clean, crisp with slight zesty citrus notes cutting through

6. Appearance : Pours a light straw colour with a one finger white head although perhaps not as much carbonation as expected.

7. Body : Surprising amount of body on the initial mouthful although this soon makes way to a slight watery finish.

8. Taste : Clean, crisp and zesty on the palate. The nose certainly gives a strong hint as to what to expect from the taste. This is a refreshing, sessionable lager that I enjoyed much more than I expected.

I will admit that I approached this one with some caution. Whether this was down to the session pilsner 3.4%abv description or not I do not know, as we have all seen those mass market Bud Light/Fosters lagers with a similar abv and let’s face it those are certainly ones to avoid.

In this case I have to applaud Freedom Brewery as Sesh is certainly sessionable as described. What the beer lacks in appearance being little carbonation and poor head retention it certainly makes up for in flavour as Sesh proved to be a very refreshing pilsner that I will definitely look to pick up again.

Please take my advice, don’t approach this as I did, looking first and foremost at the abv, just drink what is in front of you and you never know, like myself you could be pleasantly surprised.
