Dark Revolution – Hold Tight (5.4% ABV)

Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

It’s time once again to delve into our Dark Revolution haul with a double dry hopped pale called Hold Tight. This one comes in at 5.4% abv and is a showcase of Chinook, Simcoe & Idaho 7 Cryo hops so it is fair so say that this one is looking promising.

Hold Tight, here comes the review!

1. Name : Hold Tight

2. Brewery: Dark Revolution (Salisbury, England)

3. Hops :  Chinook & Simcoe Cryo (Cold Side), Idaho 7 Cryo (Hot Side)

4. Grain :  Barley, wheat & Oats

5. Aroma : Soft fruits to the fore with slight zesty citrus notes cutting through

6. Appearance : Pours a hazy straw colour with a one finger fluffy white head

7. Body : Medium body helped along by the addition of oats in the brew, Has a soft and pleasant mouthfeel

8. Taste :  Soft peachy notes at the front with a lingering citrus finish that is backed by piney hops that create a pleasant bitterness. Dry finish to add to the complexities, this is quite a pleasant brew that proves enjoyable, although perhaps not sessionable.

Hold Tight is a pleasant rather than world beating beer that has quite a bit going on. The flavour profile proves to be a decent showcase of the hop combination and with each mouthful you seem to get more flavours that move around the palate leaving a bitter yet dry finish.

Overall I enjoyed Hold Tight and I would be happy to drink this again, although personally this is one that I would probably enjoy more in smaller quantities rather than being a beer that I would session on. This is not to say that Hold Tight is a poor beer as I guarantee that if our readers came across this, they too would enjoy it and if you see it on a bar or at a festival, try a half and you never know, you might return for another.

Our overall rating: 3.2 / 5.0
