Jolly Sailor Brewery – Amber Anchor ( 4.5% ABV)

Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

Today John is hoisting the sail and raising, the Amber Anchor on this Jolly Sailor Brewery Review.

The Jolly Sailor Brewery, started off as a small batch brewing co in the village of Riccall in 2012, who later expanded to Barlby Road Selby after a prestigious award win at York Beer & Cider festival 2016.

Since then they have steadily cemented themselves, and we are taking a look at a few of there beers over the next few weeks.

  1. Name : Amber Anchor
  2. Brewery: Jolly Sailor Brewery
  3. Hops : Pilgrim and Progress
  4. Grain : N/A
  5. Appearance : Dark Amber in colour, with a finger thickness of off-white head when poured.
  6. Aroma: It has a deep malty aroma with a touch of barley, as the wife says: “it smells of beer
  7. Body : Moderate carbonation, poor head retention, and overall medium bodied
  8. Taste : Malty ale with full on flavour, with a slight fruity burnt barley sugar finish

On the first mouth full thought this was going to be on the dry side but the more I drank the less drier it became. It would be cracking on a good warm summers eve in the beer garden.

At 4.5% a nice easy drinker, so you could have a few without too much trouble.

John’s overall rating: 3.5/ 5.0
