Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
Today John is looking at his second beer from The Jolly Sailor Brewery, the Selby Stout. Being a lover of dark beers, I suspect that he’s a little excited about this one.

- Name :Selby Stout
- Brewery: Jolly Sailor Brewery
- Hops : Pilgrim and Williamette
- Grain : N/A
- Appearance : quite a clear black stout, well as clear as a black stout can be with a medium, mushroom coloured head.
- Aroma: This one is quite light on the nose, but does carry a slight nose of coffee and malt.
- Body : A little thin for a stout, with a good level of carbonation, but poor head retention.
- Taste : A wash of coffee with a tarrish finish, very traditional but a little thin overall.
I find myself a little disappointed in this one. I was hoping for a bit more flavour and had hoped to get a chocolate support as said in there description, but despite this its not terrible, it just didn’t meet my expectations.
John’s overall rating: 3.2/ 5.0
