Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
Today we look to our foreign correspondent Stuart as he is currently travelling across Seoul on “business” he happens to have stumbled across an absolute gem of a bar and a beer!
Over to you Stuart, how are things Seoul side?
1. Name : Calm Calm, from Year Round.
2. Brewery: GGEEK Beer Company
5. Aroma : Smells like what you wish Porters would; coffee, chocolate, vanilla and hops
6. Appearance : As dark as it’s possible very good thick slightly mocha head when poured
7. Body : Medium to heavy bodied, good level of carbonation and cracking head retention.
8. Taste : silky smooth, and full of coffee & chocolate flavours, despite its cold temperature [poured ice cold in contrast to the 24°c and 92% humidity], a top notch competitor for my best beer of 2024 if I did see one.
Like everything in Seoul, it only sticks around if it’s very good. This glides down far more easy than a man of my experience should allow, it’s mild bitter aftertaste just encourages you to come back for more.
It’s sold by the ml (330 or 500) making mine just under a pint. The trip might be long and expensive, but this gem goes someway to making me forget about all that.
