TEH| Chris’ Canadian Carouse – Yellow Belly Brewery

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

Long-time friend of the blog, Chris, has taken his thirst for craft beer international as he embarks on a carouse overseas, exploring a lineup of small, independent breweries beyond our usual stomping grounds.

First up on his beery adventure is the intriguingly named YellowBelly Brewery and no, despite what the name might suggest, it’s not in Scunthorpe. In fact, Chris has landed somewhere far more exciting: Canada.

Situated in the heart of St. John’s, Newfoundland, YellowBelly Brewery mixes history, character, and from what i have read online some seriously good beer.

Name: Fighting Irish Red Ale 5.5%
Price: $8.25 or $5.00 (£6.11 /£3.70 GBP)

  1. Brewery: Yellow Belly Brewery
  2. Aroma :  Red Fruits and Malts.
  3. Appearance : Deep red, clear, with a tight thick white head
  4. Body :  Full Body, Good level of carbonation and cracking head retention.
  5. Taste : Flavours of redcurrant and strawberry jam – delicious with a round of toast I reckon!

Had to go for this one with my Irish heritage didn’t I! Pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed.

Red ales can be somewhat of a rarity and so end up being more of a speciality and Yellowbelly nailed this one – a 3rd round stoppage!
