Hello there fellow beer lovers.
The Hoptimists do love a bad pun and to be fair to Roosters this beer does manage to go beyond the peel. Fruit peel is frequently added to brews, but this goes a bit further by adding satsuma purée.

- Name : Beyond The Peel Satsuma Pale Ale
- Brewery: Roosters Brewing Co, Harrogate
- Hops : Amarillo, First Gold and Moutere
- Grain : Malted barley, wheat and oats
- Aroma : Fragrant and fruity, satsumas and citrus
- Appearance : Very pale straw hued, hazy with a white head
- Body : Medium bodied, medium carbonated with some head retention
- Taste : Not as fruity as might be expected, being neither sharp and citric, or sweet and juicy. It’s dry without being overly bitter, although the satsuma flavour comes through on the aftertaste
- Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted and vegan friendly
The first surprise was the colour which is very pale, when I was expecting it to be darker and a touch of orange from the fruit purée. It’s certainly light, easy drinking and pleasant enough, but does lack a little depth. It would be a decent session beer and for that the strength is perfect.
Satsumas might be a fruit associated with Christmas, but this one would be overwhelmed by the beers I would favour during the festive period. This beer I would describe as a summer beer, one to compete against lagers and would go down well at barbecues.
