Hello Beer lovers, and welcome back to another review here at TEH.
It goes without saying that a high percentage of beer drinkers will have heard of Abbeydale Brewery even if they have not tried their beers, many of which can be found in pubs across the country, in particular their core range.
In this review we will be taking a look at one of their core range beers Deception that was first brewed in 2008 and has been a firm favourite of many since. I will confess that this is not a new beer to me, however this will be the first time that I have had it from the can…..bring it on!

1. Name : Deception
2. Brewery: Abbeydale Brewery (Sheffield, Yorkshire)
3. Hops : Nelson Sauvin
4. Grain : Barley & Wheat
5. Aroma: Light, delicate fruity nose with the Nelson Sauvin hop shining.
6. Appearance : Pours a light straw colour with a fluffy 2/3 finger white head and slow moving carbonation
7. Body : Light body with a very easy drinking mouthfeel
8. Taste : A vast abundance of fruity flavours coming from the hop with white grape, gooseberry and fleshy peach coming to the fore. This is backed by a nice bitterness that never overpowers before finishing with a dry and moreish feel on the palate.
For a beer first brewed sixteen years ago, Deception remains a beer that is not only highly drinkable, but also very sessionable and a fantastic showcase for the Nelson Sauvin hop. Each flavour from the hop comes through extremely well and with each mouthful you pick out more.
It is easy to see why this is a popular beer in the Abbeydale core range and this New Zealand Pale is one that you should certainly keep an eye out for, be it in your local pub or picking up a few cans to drink in the comfort of your own home.
Our overall rating: 3.8/ 5.0
