Hello, and welcome to The Eternal Hoptimists, and also Welcome To Wrexham! No, of course we are not reviewing the Disney football documentary featuring Deadpool and the other bloke, that would be just silly! We are in fact taking a look at a beer that does feature in the series, in the form of Wrexham Export Lager.
Will this have the potential to feature in the premier league of lagers? Or is it best confined to the depths of the lower leagues with many mainstream offerings? Read on to find out.

1. Name : Wrexham Lager Export
2. Brewery: Wrexham Lager Beer Company Limited (Wrexham, Wales)
3. Hops : Not stated
4. Grain : Malted Barley
5. Aroma : Nose is crisp with a light citrus hit backed by a malty edge
6. Appearance : Pours a golden amber colour with a one finger white head and slow moving levels of carbonation
7. Body : Light to medium body with a pleasant refreshing mouthfeel
8. Taste : Yep, the nose gives quite a hint as to what to expect in the taste. Initially a pleasant level of malt is to the fore with a nice balance of citrus cutting through that leaves a pleasant bitterness on the palate when drank.
Although I started by saying that the TV documentary had noting to do with the beer, seeing it featured did spark my interest I led to me seeking a couple of bottles out, just to see for myself if it is a decent beer. I have to say that it is!
Whilst not in the upper echelons of lagers currently available such as those hailing from Germany or Czech Republic for example, Wrexham Export more than holds its own and is far superior to many of the more mainstream lagers. Whilst my go to lagers will still hail from further afield I have to say that our Welsh friend is really rather palatable and I will certainly buy this again and be happy to sink a few pints if and when I come across it in a pub.
