Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Today we are taking a closer look at another another beer from our Beer52 experiment.
My knowledge of the German language is limited to a few words despite working with a German chap and business trips to Hamburg. Here hefe meaning yeast and weizen mean wheat means we have a yeasty German wheat beer, well I’ve tried a few of those over the years. This style promises banana and spice in the guise of cloves in the flavour profile.

- Name : Hefeweizen
- Brewery: Great Central Brewing Company, Chicago, USA
- Hops : ‘German hops’ otherwise not specified
- Grain : Malted barley (interestingly wheat is not mentioned on the ingredients listing)
- Aroma : Apples and spices with hints of yeast, like an apple strudel
- Appearance : Pale straw, slightly hazy with a white head
- Body : Medium bodied, medium carbonation with some head retention
- Taste : Some fruitiness, more apple than banana for me, wheat, spice and yeasty notes and a slightly dry finish.
A good easy drinking wheat beer, one to try again sometime. Didn’t really find the bananas.
Our overall rating: 3.8/ 5.0
