Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
A milk stout? Count me in, especially if it is brewed to taste like sticky toffee pudding. Though not a big fan of sweet beers I am slowly coming around to the current fashion of bold caramel-like stouts. The smoky, bitter style of stout appears to be out of favour, but no doubt it will return before too long.
This can promises “…one of those Ronseal beers sweet stout lovers will come back to time and again.”

- Name : Glutinous Maximus

- Appearance : Black with a slight light bleed and a head the colour of milky coffee

- Taste : Sweet and caramelly but with an added creaminess from the lactose. Hints of chocolate then a clean slightly dry finish with a malty aftertaste

Well, it is certainly sweet but not quite to teeth rotting level. It is brewed using six different malts and this malty payload is worth it as it manages to break through the sweetness. All this malt helps with the body too; this is a beer with a bit of heft belying its 4.8% ABV. The hops don’t really get much chance other adding to a dry finish, but then this a showcase for malts rather than hops.
A very nice all-round beer, one to keep an eye open for especially if its available in cask. Certainly it’s one I would drink again but because of the sweetness I think I would stick to just the one.
