Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
When Hull had a fishing industry the trawlermen were often know as ‘three-day millionaires’ due to them packing so much into, and spending so much on, their shore leave. It was a brutal and dangerous job, where you could lose your life on your next trip, that it created what we would now call the work hard, player harder mentality.
According to the can this beer is brewed for the millionaires weekend, that’s the one you get paid. “There’s probably plenty to regret from that weekend but this beer won’t be one of them!” Certainly, a bold claim, not sure what can go wrong in my sitting room, but here goes…

- Name : Millionaires Weekend
- Brewery: Bayonet Brewing, Northallerton, North Yorkshire
- Hops : Galaxy, Citra and Sabro
- Grain : Malted barley, wheat and oats
- Aroma : Tropical fruits and some hints of peach
- Appearance : Dull gold, opaque with a white head
- Body : Full bodied, only lightly carbonated and with some head retention
- Taste : Soft and fruity in the mouth, with juicy peach, pineapple and hints of grapefruit. The finish has a bitter edge to it but it’s not overlong in the aftertaste
- Dietary restrictions : No claims made
A great IPA with bags of flavour but not overpowered by the hops as some of the US style ones can be. At 6.5% it’s a properly potent IPA, but remains surprisingly easy drinking and wouldn’t spoil the palate with intensity. Can see some people getting rather merry on this one and losing the odd weekend.
No regrets from this beer, it was spot on (and I did drink in moderation.)
Peter’s overall rating: 3.8/ 5.0
