Kirin Brewery Company, Ichiban Shibori Stout (5.0% ABV)

Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists!

We cant possibly drink out every night in Singapore, so today we are tasting a couple of bottles & cans that we picked up on Orchard Road.

Unfortunately the store we went in didn’t have any Singapore beers, but it did have some nice looking Japanese imports so lets take a look at one of those!

  1. Name: Ichiban Shibori Stout
  2. Brewery: Kirin Brewery Company
  3. Hops: N/A
  4. Grain: N/A
  5. Aroma :  Strong scent of Caramel and Coffee with a traditional toasted malts
  6. Appearance : Dark with a dense mocha coloured head when poured.
  7. Body :  Medium to full bodied. smooth and well carbonated with a good head retention.
  8. Taste: Toasted malt flavour with a strong weave of caramel and coffee that dissipates quickly leaving you with a light sweet finish.

When you think of Asia and Japan, Stout isn’t one of the first things that comes to mind. But in the past I have had quite a few dark beers from Japan and the far east and let me tell you, they’re no slouch!

This was a very nice full flavoured stout, and I would definitely have this one again.. in fact we have another can!

Sam’s overall rating: 3.7/ 5.0
