Dark Revolution – Party People DDH Pale Ale (5.2% ABV)

Looking at the can art, the beer should probably be named 24 Hour Party People, but presumably that is trademarked or something. There are definite nods to the Madchester rave scene and acid house with the yellow ‘smiley’ face. At the same time, it keeps the Dark Revolution vibes as it reveals the skull underneath.

Double dry hopped and part of their small batch series, it promises to be good, but will it get me raving?

Name : Party People

Brewery : Dark Revolution, Salisbury

Hops : Nectaron

Grain : Barley, wheat and oats

Aroma : Delicately fruity, with melon and citrus lemon

Appearance : Straw, very hazy almost opaque with a foamy white head

Body :  Full bodies, medium carbonation with some head retention

Taste : Melon and tropical fruits to start and not too bitter. Dry finish with some fruit in the aftertaste

Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Suitable for vegans

A case of the understated British rather than the upfront brashness of a US style IPA. It has a lovely mouthfeel, soft on palate and smooth. This gives the delicate flavours a chance to develop, enhanced by the dry hopping without becoming too bitter.

Being unfiltered I would recommend handing the can with care, leaving it to settle a day or two before pouring and enjoying. Hard to judge with I can but didn’t pour the full can out to leave the worst behind.

Nice all round pale ale, if not exactly standout, in a packed and competitive market. One I would choose again and enjoy.
