Bearwood Brewing: Spengler, Dark Berry Sour ( 5% ABV)

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

This time we’re cracking open something that looks suspiciously like it might help animate the statue of liberty.

It’s the kind of beer that feels less like a quiet night in and more like you’ve accidentally crossed the streams… in the fridge.

Name: Spengler

  1. Brewery: Bearwood Brewing
  2. Aroma : Blackcurrant / Ribena scent with a hint of vanilla
  3. Appearance : Light red/pink ( Rose) in colour with a white film head when poured.
  4. Body :  Medium bodied, well carbonated with no head retention.
  5. Taste :  Sweet & Sour red fruits with a low level of astringency, quite morish and thirst quenching.

The blackcurrant and red fruit flavours do most of the heavy lifting, giving it a Ribena-like sweetness balanced by a gentle sour edge that keeps things lively without ever becoming sharp.

I’m not a bit sour lover but this one was more on my level. I would happily try this one again, just gutted I didn’t get my hands on Venkman!

Our overall rating: 3.6/ 5.0
