Twice Brewed – Season of the Witch (6.5% ABV)

Welcome back, fellow beer lovers.

As the Summer Solstice rolls around and we enjoy the longest day of the year, it seems only fitting that today’s beer comes with a little bit of mystery attached.

Season of the Witch from Twice Brewed isn’t exactly a name that conjures up images of sitting quietly in the sunshine, it sounds more like a beverage to be enjoyed in the Autumnal months, but lets not get ahead of ourselves!

Name: Season of the Witch, Superdelic IPA (6.5% ABV)

  1. Brewery: Twice Brewed
  2. Aroma :  Dank Hops with a Tropical and slightly herbal backing.
  3. Appearance :  Pours a cloudy manuka honey colour, with an open white slightly fluffy head.
  4. Body : Medium bodied, good level of carbonation, quite bitey and full in the mouth, with decent head retention.
  5. Taste : Dank Hops followed by a series of sweet sugary tropical notes, that morphs into a drying herbal like taste, leaving your mouth tingly.

This was an interesting one from Twice Brewed. The New Zealand hops bring plenty of tropical character, but it’s the dank, slightly herbal edge that really defines the experience. There’s a good amount of flavour packed into every mouthful, and that drying finish keeps you coming back for another sip to see what else you might uncover.

The brewery mentions cannabis flavoured gelato as part of the inspiration behind this beer, but if I’m honest, I wasn’t getting much of that. There are certainly some herbal notes present, but nothing that immediately screams cannabis or gelato to me. That said, I don’t think the beer suffers for it. What you’re left with is a well-balanced, modern IPA that manages to be both flavourful and refreshing without becoming overly sweet or heavy.
