Hello there fellow beer lovers,
Every now and again, the stars align and a beer lands on the review desk at just the right time. With this week marking the anniversary of the publication of The Fellowship of the Ring, it seemed only fitting to take a look at a beer inspired by another of Tolkien’s works.
Kirkstall Brewery’s There and Back Again takes its name from the memoirs of one Bilbo Baggins, recounting the events of The Hobbit. Whilst we’ve reviewed our fair share of beers inspired by music, films and popular culture over the years, a beer paying tribute to Middle-earth was always likely to catch our attention.
So, with the anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring providing the perfect excuse to venture back into Tolkien’s world and for Kayla to dress as an Elven warrior, let’s find out whether Kirkstall’s latest offering is an unexpected journey worth taking.
Name: There & Back Again
- Brewery: Kirkstall Brewery
- Aroma : A slight hop followed by strong citrus and tropical notes.
- Appearance : Hazy yellow in colour, with a open white head when poured.
- Body : Light and Crisp, good level of carbonation and good head retention.
- Taste : A easy drinking and refreshing mouthful with a wash of citrus flavours and a tiny touch of hoppiness, very good in this recent heat.
This is a easy-drinking summer beer with plenty of flavour for its strength and one that would disappear very quickly on a sunny afternoon.
Unfortunately unlike Lembas bread it doesn’t last for days!
