Into the Mild 2026

Hello Beer lovers!

Its that time of year again! be very very quiet!… We’re Hunting Milds!

There’s something quietly brilliant about a good Mild. No fuss, just a beer that does exactly what it says on the tin. Traditionally known for being lower in ABV, smooth, malt-forward and incredibly drinkable, Mild has always been one of those styles built for enjoyment rather than showing off.

For years, Mild carried a bit of an unfair reputation as an “old man’s pint,” but thankfully that’s been changing. More breweries are revisiting the style and giving it the attention it deserves, whether sticking closely to tradition or putting a slightly more modern spin on things. What’s especially interesting is how the style itself has started to shift. While classic Mild’s often sat comfortably around the 3% mark, plenty of modern examples are creeping upwards into the 4–5% range what would’ve been considered a fairly standard strength pint back in the ‘90s. You still get that smooth, easy-going character, but often with a little more body, flavour, and punch behind it.

This series is all about exploring that evolution. From traditional dark Milds full of nutty malt character to richer, stronger interpretations that blur the line between Mild and Brown Ale, we’ll be seeing what works, what’s worth seeking out, and which ones are genuinely moorish enough to go back for another.

Because when Mild is done well, it reminds you that beer doesn’t always need to be loud to be memorable. Sometimes the best pints are the ones that simply go down very easily and leave you wanting the next sip.

So put a note in the calendar as over the next week at 1pm we will be looking at 7 beers from several different breweries!
