Ossett Brewery x The Old Peacock x Wilko92 Foundation – Wilko 92 Tribute Ale Session Blonde (3.9% ABV)

As a rule of thumb, I steer clear of anything associated with a certain football club from West Yorkshire, as I am a fan of an opposing Yorkshire club. This is an exception because it is a beer and it is to support a good cause.

The Wilko92 Foundation is a fan-driven campaign to honour the man with a life-sized statue at Elland Road. As a manager Howard Wilkinson was not only the last manager to lead said club to the league title, but also is the last English manager to taste league success winning the old First Division before the Premier League rebrand the following year.

His team’s style of play might not sit well with modern football purists, but he assembled a formidable side who were worthy winners.

  1. Name : Wilko 92 Tribute Ale
  2. Brewery: Ossett Brewery, Ossett, West Yorkshire
  3. Hops : Not stated
  4. Grain : Malted barley
  5. Aroma : I detected more malt than hops, with faintest hint of wet grass
  6. Appearance : Pale gold, pours bright with foamy white head
  7. Body : Medium bodied, medium carbonated a little head retention
  8. Taste : Malty but not overly sweet to begin. Then a touch of biscuit confectionary before a lightly bitter finish. Pleasing aftertaste produces hints of honey
  9. Dietary restrictions: Allergens highlighted

A beer like this must be considered in context. It is brewed as part of a fund-raising project and therefore should have wide appeal. It’s an easy drinking session beer that goes down well and should appeal to most drinkers. In that sense it does everything that might be expected of it, whilst remaining faithful to the blonde style adopted by UK brewers.

Good luck with the statue chaps.
