Welcome back lovers of great beer.
Shopping in Asda, I spy a chocolate porter? Yes please, but hold on a second, marshmallow too, not so sure about that…
According to the label, it’s brewed with special Venezuelan cacao nibs which sounds lovely. There is lactose added so its going to have a vanilla creaminess too, that’s me persuaded. Apparently its “guaranteed to put a smile on your face” which is a bold claim to be tested.

- Name : Marshmallow Mountain
- Brewery: Siren Craft Brew Ltd, Finchampstead, Berkshire
- Hops : Not stated
- Grain : Malted barley, oat and rye
- Aroma : Milk chocolate and a touch of confectionary sweetness
- Appearance : Black with coffee au lait coloured head
- Body : Ful bodied, medium carbonated with some head retention
- Taste : Sweet and chocolatey up front, then its rich, malty and biscuity. The finish is surprisingly dry
- Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted
The mere mention of marshmallow screams it’s going to be sweet, but it was nowhere as sweet as feared. You are not going to fear losing your teeth with every sip. The mouthfeel was lovely and smooth on the palate.
There is a great balance between chocolate and malt flavours adding some layers of complexity. Roast is rich rather than smoky which suits a porter better.
The Abv feels about the right, not thin and easy drinking, but not so strong you would limit it to just one.
Did it put a smile on my face? No, a big grin instead, this is one porter I would definitely drink again, its lovely.
