Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Welcome back to Into The Mild, the series where we celebrate the beers that don’t always shout the loudest, but more often than not end up being the ones you’d happily order again. Mild’s continue to evolve, with brewers putting their own spin on the style while still keeping that easy-drinking, approachable character that makes them such a dependable pint.
This time, John’s diving into something with a slightly fruitier twist. Red Rascal, a 4.0% Cherry Mild from Badger Brewery. Fruit additions in darker beers can sometimes feel a bit overdone, but when they’re handled well they can bring a nice bit of balance and character without taking over the whole pint.
But as John loves his plum porters, Let’s see how he gets on with this.

Name: Red Rascal, Cherry Mild
- Brewery: Badger Brewery
- Aroma : Initially there is a good hit of cherry which then fades away into a roasted malt and caramel.
- Appearance : This one poured a dark brown, with a flash of ruby towards the the edge of the glass. A stand out white head was present initally but this dissipated to a film shortly after pouring.
- Body : This one was Medium to thin bodied, it had a ok level of carbonation, but I couldnt help that this would have been a bit better if it came straight from the cask.
- Taste : You can pick up the cherry very faintly through the long initial draw of your first mouthful, but its then followed by a nice roasted notes with a background of sweetness running through.
I think this is a very well balanced beer, and it is just a shame the body was a bit lacking, but as I said I think this was due to it not being on cask, but at 4% I think this is a very nice beer. I would be happy to session this, well done Badger ales!
