Azvex Brewing Co – Sleeping Beauty Problem India Pale Ale (7.5% ABV)

Welcome back lovers of great beer.

Not sure what problem anyone could have with sleeping beauty, as a fairy tale or classic piece of Disney animation. But we live in enlightened times, so no doubt there will be some issue with consent over a prince kissing a sleeping princess uninvited. She woke up though, so where is the problem?

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I have discovered that the expression the Sleeping Beauty problem is a probability puzzle where the probability of a fair coin landing heads upon awakening is debated as either 1/2 or 1/3. I’m a fan of mathematical puzzles but come on we are wasting valuable drinking time!

Not sure about waking up though, a true IPA weighing in at a punchy 7.5% might put me to sleep if I had a few.

  1. Name : Sleeping Beauty Problem
  2. Brewery: Azvex Brewing Co, Liverpool
  3. Hops : Citra, NZ Cascade and Waimea
  4. Grain : Barley, oats and wheat
  5. Aroma : Tropical fruits
  6. Appearance : Straw hued, opaque and pours a generous white head
  7. Body : Full bodied, well carbonated with decent head retention
  8. Taste : An immediate hit of tropical fruitiness but backed up with some oat creaminess. It’s smooth on the palate, leaving a dry finish but with only a little bitterness
  9. Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted

A proper IPA at 7.5%, but one that hides its strength well and might catch some unsuspecting drinkers out. It’s a beer that is surprisingly easy drinking and goes down well.

It avoids some of the harsh bitterness of some craft IPAs.

There was some sediment in the can, so you might want to pour steady to avoid the larger pieces falling into the glass.

Our overall rating: 3.8/ 5.0
