Azvex Brewing – Plato’s Cave, Stout (5.8% ABV)

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

Right then, you all know by now that if there’s a stout on the table, I’m probably already halfway through telling you why we’re excited about it.

This time we’ve got Plato’s Cave from Azvex Brewing, a stout weighing in at a very sessionable 5.8% ABV. Now, the name alone is doing some heavy lifting here.

Azvex have built quite a reputation for turning out beers with plenty of character, and when they point their talents towards a stout, our interest level immediately jumps from “that’s nice” to “where’s my glass?”.

Name: Plato’s Cave, Stout (5.8% ABV)

  1. Brewery: Azvex Brewing
  2. Aroma : Peanut Butter forward very sweet on the nose.
  3. Appearance : Pitch black, finger thin tight mocha head when poured.
  4. Body : Medium to Full bodied, quite smooth in the mouth with a low carbonation, but had bad head retention.
  5. Taste : Full on decadent peanut butter with a biscuity malty finish. this is the kind of mouthful that makes your eyes go wide and then you make an involuntary Mmm sound.

A nice full warming stout, with a particularly sweet and nutty background. Peanut butter Cookie flavour is very prevalent and makes a cracking dessert beer, but after a whole can it did get a little sickly.

Our overall rating: 4.1/ 5.0
