Welcome back, fellow beer lovers!
The World Cup is well underway, and while nations are battling it out on the pitch, it seems a few breweries have decided they’re not content with watching from the sidelines.
So, rather than checking the scoreboards as we ramp up to the finals, we’ll be checking the glasses.
Which beers deserve to lift the trophy, and which ones are heading home after the group stages?
There’s only one way to find out.
Our first contender steps onto the pitch wearing some distinctly Scottish colours. Vault City’s Blue Brew takes inspiration from the nation’s famous fizzy drink, promising a nostalgic twist that’s as bold as a last-minute winner in extra time.
Let’s hear the whistle and get this Final 10 Beer “World Cup” underway.

Name: Blue Brew
- Brewery: Vault City Brewery
- Aroma : Wham bar with a hint of Hubba Bubba Bubblegum
- Appearance : Cobalt Blue, with a open light blue frothy head when poured.
- Body : Medium bodied, low carbonation pretty good head retention but quite astringent.
- Taste : Iron Brew mixed with a heavy amount of Bubble-gum sourness, after a few mouthfuls it reminded me strongly of blue WKDs of the early noughties.. but that could just be the colour talking.
This is definitely a beer that will divide opinion. It’s bold, unapologetically sweet, and leans heavily into the nostalgic Iron Brew flavour. I can see it being a real hit with those who enjoy sour beers and aren’t afraid of something a little different, particularly a younger craft beer crowd looking for a bit of novelty.
Personally, I didn’t mind it, but one can was enough for me. The combination of sweetness and sourness became a little overwhelming towards the end, making it more of an experience than a session beer. That said, I’m still a big fan of Vault City’s Iron Brew and Iron Brew Float series, and could session those all night.. despite there ABV’s.
Our overall rating: 3.6/ 5.0
