World Cup Beers 2026 – Funky Fluid : ‘Final Eight’ Selecao, West Coast IPA (6.0% ABV)

Welcome back, fellow beer lovers!

One thing I’ve loved about this World Cup series so far is that no two beers have been the same. Today’s contender is Selecao, a 6.0% West Coast IPA that promises to let its hops do the talking.

So, with the referee’s whistle blown and another World Cup fixture about to kick off, it’s over to Stuart to see whether Selecao is worthy of lifting the trophy.

Name: Selecao, West Coast IPA

  1. Brewery: Funky Fluid
  2. Hops: Rakau, Cascade New Zealand, Mosaic & Motueka.
  3. Aroma : Suprisingly, only mild hop notes despite a hop bill featuring Rakau, New Zealand Cascade, Mosaic and Motueka.
  4. Appearance : Pouring a clear light amber with a thin white head, Seleção immediately presents itself as a classic-looking West Coast IPA
  5. Body : Light carbonation and a thin body make for an easy-drinking mouthfeel, although poor head retention
  6. Taste : Strong, smoky hop character dominates throughout and lingers long after each sip, often overshadowing the subtler elements of the beer.

An average IPA with the flavour of two. This will definitely stay with you as what it lacks in character, it more than makes up for with a powerful flavour.

Chris’ overall rating: 3.0/ 5.0
